Hello to all, My name is Martha Maria. I live in East Tennessee, in the USA. I'm a mountain girl. My little white house sits in the shadow of Buffalo and Wind Rock Mountains. The white house is where I live with my husband Bob and my two teenaged sons. It's also where I compose and record most of my music.

I write and perform in many genres....solo piano, American country, pop, musical theater. Really, I like just about all kinds of music.

I've posted several different songs/compositions here: a couple of piano pieces recorded on my truly ancient grand piano, others on an electronic sampled piano, instrumental sketches, some songI've recorded myself and some that are recordings made by musicians in Nashville, Tennessee. On my playlist, all of the selections say 'writer, Martha Maria.' If it's me doing the performance as well, it will read 'MarMelodian' for the artist.

I welcome hearing from all whether for friendship or about using my compositions in other projects.

Just want to mention that when I compose, I use the name Martha Maria. When I record, I use the artist name MarMelodian.
Hello to Everyone,

I'm Martha Maria, a singer/songwriter, musician/composer and recording artist. When I record, I use the name MarMelodian. You can visit my web site at MarMelodian.com. I write in many genres--pop, country, New Age, and folk, BUT I started out as a classical pianist and composer. Lately I've kind of been feeling called to go back to some classical compositions.

I've posted several of my compositions here. That's me playing all the instruments as well as singing (except for "Free Tibet," when I had some wonderful studio musicians in Nashville backing me up). Jan. 16th- Just added "Life Is Like A Rodeo" -obviously not me singing. I wrote this song and it is recorded by Gary Carter in Nashville, Tn.

The first two songs posted are part of a musical I'm currently working on called "The Storm." The third and fourth songs are part of a group of instrumental pieces called "Cumberland Suite." The Cumberlands are part of the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee. The last song, "Free Tibet" is a political/pop song I released right before the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

PLEASE NOTE: I welcome (relish is more like it!) inquiries from singers/artists who are interested in singing or performing my work.

On November 22, I released a new album called "Spirit Songs" which is a collection of songs based on the text of "A Course in Miracles" and other spiritual sources. It's very New Age in sound and theme. If any of you are familiar with "A Course In Miracles" you'll know what I mean when I say it was a task I seemed to be assigned. You can read more about it and hear some clips at my website, MarMelodian.com.

Thanks for visiting and listening-- I'm very happy about finding a community of persons interested in new classical music. I know you will inspire me with your work to reach a higher place with my own. I look forward to hearing from some of you and will visit the site regularly to see what's going on with my fellow members. Martha Maria

The Mendelssohn Project - Unearthing Mendelssohn's lost works

Hello Everyone,
On February 3rd, I heard a wonderful program on National Public Radio's Morning Edition about the discovery of over 200 unpublished works by Mendelssohn. Some of them were performed for the first time on the 200th anniversary of his birth on February 3rd. Here's the web address of the National Public Radio page where you can hear the broadcast--it's a little over seven minutes. www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100144614. It's on the Arts and Entertainment page dated… Continue

"Remember Handel? Who, that was not born
Deaf as the dead to harmony, forgets,
Or can, the more than Homer of his age?"
