Just played LB's dissertation of Beethoven's Eroica symphony. It was on a Sony CD. Are there any other recordings from his famous TV 'workshops'?

Can't remember very much about Dybbuk...but I do remember it has an odd plot. The music, however, is very reminiscent of a lot of Bernstein's other music. Lots of energy!

As a student, I went backstage to meet him after he conducted a concert which included music from his ballet 'Dybbuk'. Asking him about the story behind the ballet, he said it was in the programme - which I hadn't purchased, as it was expensive. He handed me a free one - and got a fan for life.

Anyone interested in discussing the life of Leonard Bernstein, his music, his controversies and his genius is invited to join. You can be as brief or as long as you wish. Let's find out who out there enjoys (and perhaps enjoys to a lesser extent) this musical giant of the 20th century.

Quote of the Day

"Remember Handel? Who, that was not born
Deaf as the dead to harmony, forgets,
Or can, the more than Homer of his age?"
