Yesterday, I watched a documentary about the violinist and the young professor Julia Fischer; I had many feelings when I saw how she teaches children, or more general, how children are taught and united to play together and to get in touch with the different music aspects. Yet, it was very depressing to notice the difference between my life, as a violinist, and the life of children and yound musicians in Germany. I was too late in discovering many important things about performance, listening and practicing. I know that I could have been on a better level as a violinist.

Enlightened teaching philosophies - wish they had been around when I was learning music at school. Whatever method was used on me helped me develop severe performance anxiety. I almost wish I could start learning again just in order to overcome that. S

Indeed...
I was thinking today, how much it is important to have your spontaneity and individualism in performance built from the very beginning...
I had to build that on my own after realizing it; of course alittle bit late!

I'm interested - what did Julia Fischer do that was so inspiring?

What Julia Fischer was inspiring to me, comparing it with teaching methods in Syira. As I mentioned, individualism in performance and the spontaneity or let's say descretion to discover your own technical problems, discover more intricate details or performance...
Her notes to the students were simple as to help them to develop more rich performance, so it's not only about techinques as I was taught for a long time...

Quote of the Day

"Remember Handel? Who, that was not born
Deaf as the dead to harmony, forgets,
Or can, the more than Homer of his age?"
